GCFO Blog 25: Getting Winter Ready

If a steady chain of sub 20° days hasn’t already forced you to get ready for another Brisbane winter then let this be your warning. Here’s what you need to do to get ready for another ‘gruelling’ South-East Queensland chilly season. Before we get started, we just want to silence a few people that will likely call us a bunch of whingers - those spending their first winter here, you’ll be in the same boat after a couple of years too!

Comfort (Food) is Key

There’s nothing better than sitting, rugged up, in your favourite spot at home sipping on a hot coffee, tea, or MILO heaped with ten teaspoons, so stock up! You’re also going to want to perfect your winter warmer recipes. A beautiful homemade stew is an easy home crowd-pleaser that’s always good for leftovers, otherwise, try and recreate one of your favourite curries. You also can’t go past pumpkin soup (or any soup for that matter) and toast soldiers for something simple, tasty and warming.

Staying Warm

This one’s fairly self-explanatory. Winter is clearly the best time of the year when it comes to fashion and there’s more than one reason why. Stylish scarves, jumpsuits and jackets are perfect and available almost everywhere but you also won’t be judged (too much) for strutting around in trackies and an oversized jumper. You’ll also want to leave a couple of blankets lying around the house for comfort and have a heater handy for those really chilly mornings. Our last tip here is one of our favourite things about winter. Backyard fires with the family are a great way to spend those cold winter nights. A quick search online and you’ll find dozens of cheap, second-hand fire pits that will make your winter one to remember. Toasted marshmallows are essential but don’t be afraid to try out a few other things like Mars bars or cheese. Don’t forget to check-in with your local council and forewarn your neighbours before starting up your fire.

Stay Safe

It’s flu season and it pays to be careful more now than ever. Keeping warm and eating the right foods will go a long way in helping, but stocking up on the essentials is also super important. Grab some tissues, soaps, and sanitisers to help slow the spread of disease and be extra vigilant and thorough with your hygiene. We also recommend grabbing some surface cleaner and giving your home a thorough wipe down especially if you’ve had someone at home with the sniffles and a sore throat.   Remember to head to your local Golden Circle Factory Outlet to stock up on some of your winter favourites.
